Meet Dr. Nancy Tilkin


Dr. Tilkin is a Magna Cum Laude Graduate of the University of Maryland Dental School, where she was awarded numerous honors for outstanding leadership and academic excellence. She earned membership to the meritorious honor societies of Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (Phi Chapter), F.J.S. Gorgas Odontological Society, Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Society, and Who’s Who among students in American Universities and Colleges. She graduated third in her class and served faithfully as class president.

After completing a general practice residency at the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C., Dr. Tilkin returned to the University of Maryland for her postgraduate orthodontic training. In 1988, she was awarded her Orthodontic Certification and the “Postgraduate Orthodontic Award for Clinical Excellence.”

Throughout her career, Dr. Tilkin has exemplified outstanding leadership and highest ethical standards in the field of Orthodontics and Dentistry. In light of her invaluable contributions to the profession and the society, she was nominated by her colleagues and was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists, and the World Federation of Orthodontists. These organizations are prestigious dental societies whose members are nominated and inducted by a board by virtue of their excellent academic contributions, their exemplary leadership and their meritorious work in their field.

She is also routinely selected by her peers and recognized as “Top orthodontist” in both the Washingtonian and Consumer Checkbook.

Dr. Tilkin is a member of a multitude of local, national, and international dental and orthodontic societies These include the American Association of Orthodontists, Maryland Society of Orthodontics, Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Society, Southern Maryland Dental Society, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. She is also a member and Past President of the Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists, the Greater Washington Orthodontic Society, and the Maimonides Dental Society.

Currently a Delegate for the Southern Maryland Dental Society, Dr. Tilkin also serves as the Vice Chairman for the American College of Dentists, board member for the University of Maryland Alumni Association, and teaches at the Southern Maryland Dental Society. She is a volunteer dentist locally and abroad in Thailand and serves as secretary for the non-profit “Smiles on Wings” since 2005.

Prior to joining Dr. DeMarco in 1999, Dr. Tilkin practiced as an orthodontist in a large pediatric-based practice in Waldorf, Maryland for 12 years. Her area of expertise includes early intervention in the correction of dentofacial malocclusions in young children and adolescents. In her quest to improve the quality of her care Dr. Tilkin has broadened her scope of practice to include myofunctional therapy, sleep medicine and is a “Myobrace” certified provider. This enables her minimize aberrant influences on growth and development which improves facial balance and positively affects the overall health of the patient.

Dr. Tilkin is not only highly qualified but a genuinely caring doctor dedicated to providing superior orthodontics, serving the community and improving the quality of peoples’ lives. Her devotion of lifelong learning provides not only comfortable but also ideal state-of-the-art treatment for our patients. Her love for her profession and dedication to her patients is obvious. She cherishes the opportunity to be part of her patients’ lives by working with them to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.

Dr. Tilkin is the mother of three children; Ryan, Matthew, and Erin, and is married to Dr. Robert Tilkin, a dentist in Rockville. A native of this area, she is active in local community and school organizations. Although her career and family keeps her busy, she still finds time for creative arts and crafts, reading, and outdoor sports.
